Moving

Well we got moved in.  We are at the new house and unpacking.   Now I need to figure out how to dig the trench from the house to the garage in the middle of January in the Northeast?  I'm already missing my garage time, i've got to get going on this.

  1. You can rent a gas powered trench digger that would probably do the trick. How deep of a trench do you need to dig, are you getting a building permit for, and is there any natural gas, sewer, electric, etc running under your yard?

  2. Yea I asked about the digger and they said that they don't work on frozen ground. The ground is started to get more frozen, last week it was not too bad but today it was more frozen.

Ok so if i want to dig 1 hole it has to be 24, and stack the lines 12" apart. Or if I want to dig it 18" i have to dig 2 trenches. 1 for the gas and 1 for the electric. I will prolly dig 1 hole... So i will not have to 'break ground" two times.

I got the permit today, and what a crock of $%^&. If i want to put a "perminate" heater in the garage then there must be R21 on the walls and R49 in the celing?! Dude its a garage! I mentioned if i just run a Salamander do i have to insulate it that way? Nope they no longer care. WTF. So i have to build out the walls before i can do much else... UGH! No wonder i haven't ever got a permit before!

There not any lines in the yard other than the existing line out there (that is too small for any real use). I called the dig safely NY line.

But i hope to get the line dug, and frame it in this weekend but that is pretty ambitious.
